Horizontal Directional Drilling Rig Principle and Function Analysis

Working Principle
1. Drill Hole Layout: First, based on project requirements and geological conditions, determine suitable drilling locations and directions. Accurate measurements are used to determine and mark the borehole's inlet and outlet positions.

2. Drilling Operation: The horizontal directional drilling rig is placed at the inlet point, with the rig body kept horizontal. Then, the drill rod is inserted into the borehole and rotation is initiated. Simultaneously, the propulsion system drives the drill rod and drill bit deeper into the ground.

3. Drill Bit Operation: The drill bit, located at the front end of the drill rod, features a sharp cutting edge and a water spray system. As the drill bit rotates, the cutting edge cuts through the underground material, and the water spray system washes away the cutting debris.

4. Borehole Guidance: To ensure the borehole follows a predetermined trajectory, the horizontal directional drilling rig is equipped with a guidance system. These systems accurately measure and control the drill bit's position in the horizontal and vertical directions, such as distance measuring systems and inertial navigation systems, allowing the drill bit to advance along the predetermined trajectory.

5. Borehole Completion: Once the borehole reaches the predetermined depth and position, the drill rod and drill bit are extracted from the ground. At this point, underground pipes or pipelines can be installed through the borehole's inlet and outlet.

Main Functions:
1. Trenchless Construction: Horizontal directional drilling rigs enable the laying of underground pipes and pipelines without damaging the ground, significantly reducing ground damage and restoration costs.

2. Improved Construction Efficiency: Through a precise guidance system, horizontal directional drilling rigs ensure drilling accuracy, thereby improving construction efficiency.

3. Reduced Environmental Impact: Compared to traditional excavation methods, horizontal directional drilling rigs reduce noise, dust, and other environmental pollution, making them more environmentally friendly.

4. Strong Adaptability: Horizontal directional drilling rigs are suitable for various soil types and geological conditions, and are widely used in pipeline laying projects for water supply, electricity, and oil.
