How to check whether the safety guard of the Horizontal Directional Machine is intact?

1. Guardrail inspection
1. Appearance inspection:
First, check the guardrail around the Horizontal Directional Machine to see if it is deformed, damaged or missing. Guardrails are usually installed on the operating platform of the equipment, around moving parts, and other areas that may cause danger to personnel to prevent personnel from accidentally contacting dangerous parts of the equipment.
Observe the frame structure of the guardrail and check whether there are any bent, broken or loose parts. For metal guardrails, check for signs of rust or corrosion, as this may affect the strength and stability of the guardrail.
2. Connection inspection:
Check the connection between the guardrail and the equipment to ensure that the guardrail is firmly fixed to the Horizontal Directional Machine. Use a wrench or other tool to check whether the connecting bolts and nuts are tightened. For loose parts, tighten them in time.
Check whether the welding parts (if it is a welding connection) are firm, whether there is desoldering or cracks, and ensure that the guardrail can withstand a certain external force impact without falling off or shifting.
2. Emergency stop button inspection
1. Functional test:
Find the emergency stop button on the Horizontal Directional Machine. Usually, multiple emergency stop buttons are set on the operating table, key equipment locations, or near the operator so that the equipment can be stopped quickly in an emergency.
When the equipment is running, press the emergency stop button and observe whether the equipment stops running immediately. All actions of the equipment, including the rotation and propulsion of the drill pipe, the operation of the mud system, etc., should be stopped instantly to verify the effectiveness of the emergency stop button.
Check whether the equipment can start and run normally after the emergency stop button is reset to avoid affecting subsequent operations due to the failure of the emergency stop button.
3. Inspection of protective covers and protective shields
1. Equipment protective covers:
Check whether the protective covers of key components such as the engine, gearbox, and hydraulic system of the Horizontal Directional Machine are complete. The protective covers can prevent personnel from accidentally contacting rotating or high-temperature components to avoid injuries.
For removable protective covers, check whether their locks or fixing devices are working properly to ensure that the protective covers can be firmly locked when closed to prevent accidental opening during equipment operation.
Check the sealing of the protective cover to prevent dust, mud, etc. from entering the equipment and affecting the performance of the equipment, and avoid contact with the internal moving parts.
2. Drill rod and drill bit protective cover:
Check the protective cover of the drill rod connection and rotation part to ensure that it is complete and firmly installed. When the drill rod rotates, the protective cover can effectively prevent debris and mud from splashing out, protecting the safety of the operator and surrounding personnel.
For the drill bit, check whether its protective cover is damaged or worn, especially when replacing the drill bit, to ensure that the protective cover can be installed normally and play a protective role to prevent the drill bit from causing harm to personnel during transportation or storage.
IV. Safety interlock device inspection
1. Operation door interlock:
If the operation room or some important parts of the Horizontal Directional Machine are equipped with an operation door, check the safety interlock device of the door. When the operation door is opened, the equipment should not be started or should be stopped immediately to prevent personnel from operating the equipment with the operation door open and causing danger.
After closing the operation door, check whether the equipment can start normally, ensure the logic of the interlock device is correct, and ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
2. Other interlocks:
Some Horizontal Directional Machines may have other interlocks, such as safety interlocks when replacing drill rods or performing maintenance. Check whether these interlocks are working properly. For example, when the drill rod is not connected or not in a safe position, the equipment should not start the propulsion or rotation function to ensure that the equipment cannot operate in an unsafe state.
V. Alarm device inspection
1. Sound alarm:
Test the sound alarm function of the Horizontal Directional Machine, such as whether a clear alarm sound can be issued to alert the operator when the equipment has an abnormal situation (such as low oil pressure, high temperature, excessive torque, etc.).
Adjust the parameter settings of the equipment, simulate abnormal conditions, and check whether the alarm sound can be sounded in time and whether the volume is loud enough to ensure that it can attract the attention of the operator in a noisy construction site.
2. Light alarm:
Check the light alarm device, such as the indicator light on the equipment operating table, and whether the corresponding indicator light is on when the equipment has different abnormal conditions. Indicator lights of different colors usually represent different states, such as red for fault, yellow for warning, and green for normal, to ensure that the light alarm system is working properly.
VI. Inspection of other safety protection devices
1. Anti-fall device (if any):
For some Horizontal Directional Machines with higher operating platforms, check the anti-fall devices, such as safety ropes on the guardrails, safety belt hooks, etc. Make sure these devices are firm and reliable to prevent operators from falling from heights.
Check the performance of the safety belt to see if it is expired, damaged or worn, and whether its hook can be locked on the safety rope normally.
2. Anti-slip device:
Check the anti-slip performance of the equipment's operating platform, pedals and other parts, especially in wet or muddy construction sites, to ensure that operators will not slip during walking and operation. The anti-slip effect can be evaluated by touching the anti-slip texture of the surface or using an anti-slip test tool.
When checking the safety protection device of the Horizontal Directional Machine, the operator should carefully and comprehensively check all the above aspects to ensure that each safety protection device can work properly and provide safety protection for equipment operation and construction. If problems are found in the safety protection device, they should be repaired or replaced in time, and the equipment should never be used when the safety protection device is not intact.
